And, by the way, thank you so much for taking a look at them.

Two days after publication of my October newsletter, I received a solicitation inquiring about my rates for some simple introductions for a syndicated news program. As I always do, I looked for a link to the website (or domain) of the solicitor. The site was new and was obviously still in the design stages. But, there was enough info there for me to ascertain the jist of what this individual endeavors to accomplish.

Tune Me In - Turn Me On!

Although I’m a voiceover artist, I remain in radio. Not because of the great pay, recognition, fame and fortune, but for the same reason I entered the business 31 years ago… I happen to love what I do.

International Voice Conferences - Worth It?

The first ever international conference for voiceover artists ended recently. It was an information-packed event spanning 4 days and took place in Las Vegas. Among the guest speakers were Pat Fraley, Bob Bergen and a surprise appearance by Don LaFontaine. Topics discussed ranged from demos to marketing and everything in between. Those in attendance report that they each took something (in some cases, many somethings) home with them.

Speak Easy - Doc's Blog

Come on by and find about the profession of voiceover and voice acting. Voice

A term that gets bandied about in our industry among voiceover artists, producers, casting directors, etc. is "money voice". But, what IS the "money voice"?

Easily defined, it is that voice that clients seem to respond to best. It isyour voice, style, delivery, interpretation that sells the client's wares. It is that voice that is uniquely you. It's also that voice that you can reproduce without thought or effort. It is you, the whole you and nothing but the you. And, every voiceover artist has one.. However, sometimes it is difficult to be objective when it comes to selecting our own "money voice".

Keep in mind that what we perceive to be our "money voice" may be very different from what others perceive it to be.

Disc Jockeys Can't Become Voiceover Artists

Or, can they? The answer is quite simple. Of course they can. I did. And, I'm also still working in radio and have been for 30 years. However, there are some caveats to consider.

If you've been working in radio for, say, more than 2 years you've been trained to deliver your voice in a very narrow range of both style and interpretation by the powers that be. Many of those "powers" you never even see.

If you can’t take the criticism, DON’T ask for it!

In almost no other profession are open criticisms solicited, let alone appreciated. However, if you are a performing artist of any kind you expect criticism. In fact, nearly constant criticism, albeit constructive, is the norm. If you respect and admire those from whom you solicit critique, you won’t need a thick skin – just a very open mind. Learn to accept it now, or you’re sure to fail in the end.

Are Independent Voiceover Artists Reaping All the Benefits of Technology?

Keeping voiceover artists and producers up-to-date with the latest recording technology.

So - You're Considering a Career in Voiceover?

Advice for the beginning freelance voiceover artist.
